Hello everyone. Happy holidays.
I am currently an undergraduate mathematics student and I am interested in sales & trading. I was recently offered a job at a firm that specializes in creating trading algorithms for sell-side institutions. Initially a large part of my responsibility will be data analysis, but I will also be working with their PhDs and learning how to create and code trading algorithms.
This sounds like a great opportunity to get into an interesting and growing area in finance. My question is, where do people with this experience usually go next? Is there a common transfer from creating sell-side algorithms to buy-side quantitative trading models? If I end up loving this field and decide to stay, where are the areas of growth for sell-side algorithmic trading? Also, are the skills I would learn here transferable to other asset classes such as commodities, currencies or rates?
Thank you everyone for the great community here, and I will appreciate any insight.
