I need a book recomendation

Hej,

I want to buy a book as a gift. Should be non fiction and about management, best case from the IT world. Also should be an easy read, possibly a biography of one the IT heros like Larry Ellison,Billy or Steve Jobs. Or something like "The Ikea Way", "The Toyota Way" stuff...I think you get what I mean...

Is there anything you can recommend that is a nice read or even educating (best case)?

May I suggest any of the Dilbert books?

Totally non-fiction and totally about (mis)-management... Cool

what about "the new, new thing" by michael lewis?

it is probably his worst book but is still a million times better than most business books.

or waht about "liars poker"?

The classic is The Mythical Man Month by Fred Brooks

a more recent one:

"Peopleware" by DeMarco and Lister is another classic.

My favorite is "Pitfalls of Object Oriented Development" by Bruce Webster. It's only a little bit about actual object oriented programming (though I originally bought it because I hate OO). You can take almost every place where he says "objects" and replace it with "X technology" and get a good piece of advice. It was written in the 90s by a guy who built a word processor, but almost all of it is still true today.

I don't solve problem, I just create new ones....now I have to pick one Smiley

Like always when I hit the amazon page to buy a present for somebody... I buy one book as a gift.....and 3 books for me.

I'll go with a cheap Dilbert and Peopleware for th egift....

and buy Pitfalls of OOD ,The Mythical Man Month and the glitchbook for me Wink

Po Bronson's Bombardiers is a hilarious satire of finance. When I was a noob, desk boss actually forbid me loaning the book to colleagues "because it is bad for morale". Quess how bad book-burning was on my morale...
