Buying out bonuses

A bank wants to make an offer to me but the recruiter says they will under no circumstances wait until my bonus is paid or buy it out. Is it common now that banks do not want to compensate forfeited bonuses when people join them a few months before the bonus is supposed to be paid? Answers much appreciated will be.

Generally they never do want to but they will - rather depends on the level and how much they need the seat filled.

there is no reason for your hh to lie, it is in his interest for you to be paid more. So it might be true that the decision has to be made right now, as the hiring window is closing and they need a person now... and if it is not filled now and you dragged them through the whole process, they might be too pissed off with you to come back to you again when it reopens in the new year...

it all depends how much you like the role, if it is a real step up then it is not your last bonus... if you are moving for minor reasons and confident in your bonus at your current place, then you might risk it and tell them you would wait for the bonus since they are not buying, and sign after that

I see no reason why they would be pissed off at me, it's not as if I would change my mind about something and I always said clearly what my expectations are.
