I am an Economics and Econometrics grad from a UK redbrick university. I feel my academic background doesn’t have enough mathematical content to get myself into a respected MSc Financial Engineering/ Mathematical Finance/ Quantitative Finance. As most of phorum members will have had been through this route so I wanted to ask what would it take for someone of my background to get into such a course.
It’s not that I don’t think I can cope with the mathematics but I doubt that my degree has had sufficient quantitative exams for me to prove to recruiter I can do the math (with studying and hard work of course).
I am planning to take online courses to fulfill entry requirements not met by my previous coursework but would this be disadvantageous compared to on campus learning? Will my ability be doubted because it’s an online accreditation?
Also, there’s the programming aspect perquisite. How do I prove to reviewers, on paper, that I can program. Will I need to enroll in another online course? Again the same question as before, will it look bad because it’s an online course.

There are self-exams on all of the MFE's (and the CQF) that say if you have the math chops or not.
