Mark my words...

One of these days, if its the last thing I do, I'm going to get a job in finance!!

Ok. It's becoming obvious this self-study crap isn't getting me anywhere, but I'll break in one way another. I was accepted to Chicago to study analytic finance (MBA). I deferred until next Fall.

Watch out!! Tongue out

Eric

One day, in the midst of another one of his increasingly frequent homicidal fantasies, Croke noticed a new member had invaded his favorite forum. It was an obnoxious coed (or so he thought) who went by the nickname "Lilly". At first, all Croke could think about was strangling the life out of this giddy new member. Her insistent flirting with everyone was disgusting to Croke and he began a merciless vendetta against her.

He was sure that his prominent status would cause the other "regulars" to outcast the newcomer as he wished. On the contrary, everyone dug Lilly and even Croke's most vehement beratings fell on def ears. This infuriated Croke even more.

Hi Eric -

Pls feel free to contact me - at the moment we're interviewing candidates for an entry-level quant position at our downtown Chicago office.

Send resume to:

feynman44yahoo.com

Analytic finance at Chicago sounds great - any idea who your advisor will be yet?  The GSB just finished a nifty new facility in Hyde Park, you'll enjoy studying there.

Martingale, I've moved on and happily so.  Long story short: you should consider it a blessing in disguise the way things played out a few years ago when we last talked.  My ex-boss (BSD trader in his own mind) -- with whom you spoke on the phone -- turned out to just be a BD.  I guess they haven't de-activated my old e-mail account, which doesn't surprise me much.  I left there several months ago.

Anyway feel free to contact me at that address I gave Eric.  Are you still in the Houston area?

Sorry for my outburst. I was gone... but now I'm back...

Hi athletico,

I just sent a draft of my resume and I'll work on the cover letter.

I hadn't thought about getting an advisor at UC next fall. I'll look into that.

Thanks!

Hi DW,

I've only spoken with two HHs so far over the last few days and haven't gotten a phone interview (yet), but two years ago I gave it a good run trying to get a job as a quant without success. Perhaps I'm experiencing some post-traumatic stress disorder. Flashbacks from my 9 hour interview at GS in credit derivatives (It was traumatic because I fell in love with that place and would kill to get a job there...).

For the last two years I've been working in scientific computing at MIT Lincoln Laboratory.

I think a problem is my presentation during an interview. Once I open my mouth and start blabbing about noncommutative geometry and how it relates to stochastic calculus and how I've used it in some elementary option pricing models, I think their eyes glaze over and my fate is sealed.

Over the last few weeks I've been applying it to lattice models and just wrote up some code (admittingly simple code) to price vanilla options using the binomial method. Now Im looking for problems I can solve that people might actually care about. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Eric

PS: If anyone would care to look at my resume (for criticisms or employment opportunities), please email me at eforgyyahoo.com.
