Is Mark Knopfler old skool enough? If you agree I would even suggest Charles "Chuck" Schuldiner.

Fripp I like, Phil Manzanera I like. I don't know Blind Willie McTell, but I like Lead Belly. don't know Charles Schuldiner. He sounds Gehman. Yes, agree that Zappa is kinda a composer. I listen to Inca Roads a lot. The London Symphony thing was interesting.
