google: hft infrastructure latency

google: high frequency trading network architecture

etc etc

interesting:

http://www.fujitsu.com/downloads/TEL/fnc/whitepapers/LowlatencyTrading.pdf

https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en_us/solutions/industries/docs/finance/c22-658397-01_sOview.pdf

Marketing information from Cisco, Fujitsu etc. all these competing guys is an ultimate source of introductory information. They are competing and, therefore, bring to the eye of potential buyer the most relevant and dry info. The book you mentioned is for reference only (skip "Augmented reality" chapter for sure).

Quoted latencies from blog you have provided gives idea about the level of competition. Hard line is defined by speed of light in vacuum. Little increment is due to "curvature" of the cable, speed of light within matter (it is lower), time add-ons from switchers/transmitters, re-amplifiers (and "hell knows what")

When I graduated as nuclear physicist I remember having similar problem to recognize all that terminology around devices. The best source of information was marketing catalog from "CAEN". Their 10-15 pages were priceless.

maybe make a 'bold face' and call them.

I have written you a lot of info. Read it and reread and google. Curiosity will bring you far away, far beyond those 'introductory books'.

Good luck.

@nikol thats an interesting thing you say ("The book you mentioned is for reference only"). I always have difficulty working out when it is worth reading a book a priori to any need or just to google around.

"Stand up" and get mental picture of what is your goal. Visualize it. And then walk towards it. :)
