the weird and completely awesome luck immediately subsequent to the eject button being pushed is what gives me pause.

indeed. experienced that many, many years ago.

there might be rational explanations. e.g.

getting out allows your brain to think better,clearer, hence you see more chances and grab them as you are more positive - or: getting out makes you feel more positive, hence you tend to see/weight more the positives and less the negatives, etc.

On a sideline, not being v familiar with Gracian I looked him up, I see he's spanish. Spanishness possibly has interesting take on mala suerte, at least in those centuries. Something to be proud of, somehow? the end of "Alatriste" comes to mind

Well, I know one (100% of the above definition) therefore they do exist.

Currently, the one I know is a broker... (yes, the kind who can organize a dwarf tossing party for his clients).

@Nonius you aren't the only one; the good thing with jslade, a part from his sharp mind, is that he helps one improve greatly ones' vocabulary... I thought hoodoos were some kind of stone totem poles found in badlands... I have no clue of what Niederhoffer's meaning would be.. JSlade enlighten us please...

It's like a curse placed on you. If you have ever been in one of those relationships, escaping feels like a bad curse has been lifted. If you can accomplish that without a very public show of nude anger for your entire neighborhood then your hoodoo has indeed been lifted off your shoulders. Blush

Tradenator I decidedly really adore your story about the girl nude in anger.. She must have been very but very very "infatuated with you"..

My general tendency, Tradenator, is to lever up. In this case, I think I'll be following Bachelier to go light some candles or something. I'm getting too old to dodge the throwing knives. Plus, if my luck is actually in the money, I'll be too damn busy trying to make a dollar to manage extra portfolios.

Thanks for the comments; I'm a little discombobulated by current events, and it's good to know others have noticed such auspices and portents.
