as i've tried to point out to the comirtte, NYMEX ALREADY IS A MINI . . . at $50/bbl one contract is $50,000 notional, compare that to an e-mini s&p . . . . e-mini on nymex is useless

nonius - what about using your own employer . . . they arent great but they arent bad . . .

. . . i use CARR to clear, [the old dean witter, and its not even CARR anymore, the combination of the two french "credite's" has a new name that escapes me],and some old friends on the floor to actualy execute . . .

. . . but if i was a civilian i'd go with Man or Refco, comissions should be about $10-$15/ ROUND turn [not each way]... thats $0.01to $0.015 per bbl of crude. . . if you need comissions smaller than that because you are looking to make money on an edge smaller than that you should be on the floor

i'm not sure Fimat would accept a retail account

I wanted to inquire about specific trade. Went to NYMEX to look up some quotes. Looks like there's no volume up there. I walked to the trader to confirm. He said I'm right: this shit trades on NYMEX only nominally; in reality it trades only OTC. End of the story. Maybe not the end. I'll think of replicating the trade in more liquid contracts.

As James suggested, how about spread betting (I'm taking a look at Cantor Index right now) to punt PA commodities/forex (I'm thinking about my famous GBPEUR dilemma) without much hassle?

The spreads seem to be decent and the tax implications are attractive.  Any direct experience with it?

Meanwhile, "my" spread has half-closed. I wish I had enough balls to trade in futures Sad

Okay sorrry to resurrect this thread. I was chatting with a Friend and he was going on, about how the commodity bulls are doing so well. And he said he had done well holding GSCI. I am a little curious about this:

i) Is there any volume in that?

ii) I presume a commodity index is probably going to be highly correlated with crude so why not trade CL on the NYMEX?

Is there a good reason to trade a commodity index?
