Maybe try e-cigs, gum or smokeless tobacco? The bad part of smoking is inhaling smoldering organic compounds. Nicotine itself is, at worst, mostly harmless. At best, the evidence keeps mounting that it is strongly protective against Alzheimers, Parkinson's, dementia and age-related cognitive decline. Either way substituting cigarettes for any smoke-free alternative is a huge win.

Two forms of 'baccy I like:
Snus (the Swedish stuff, not the American stuff)
Nasal snuff (Fribourg & Treyer varieties anyway; same nose candy as Lord Byron used)
Supposedly it is the amines in fermented tobacco that gives you cancer when you put it in your mouth. Neither of these varieties is fermented, and Scandinavians (who use snus in some huge ratio) have no more cancers than anybody else.

Probably not. My wife tried chewing gum containing nicotine during a flight and ignored the hints regarding how long to chew and when to pause. She smokes 30 cigs a day, yet got seasick pretty fast.

don't think jslade was talkn' bout nicotine chewing gum and nicotine drenched toothpicks. I'm guessing he means tabaki- the real tobacco guys chew, like baseball players and shit. lil bit under the lip. I actually do sort of like it but its a huge rush. huge. I find it more intense than the synthetic stuff, but those are pretty heavy too.
