C++ book for beginners

Can anyone recommend a good c++ book for someone with little programming experience? I used to program in c++ back in highschool (the 90s) and did pretty well. Since then I've forgotten a few things but it was a AP class so it wasn't that high level anyways. I've had a copy of "Ivor Horton's Visual C++ 2005" since last December but I don't like it. It doesn't suit my learning style. I've actually learned more from youtube than I have from this book. There aren't any classes on my level in my area. There are classes for people with no experience, classes for people with years of experience in JAVA or VB, but nothing for someone with a couple semesters of c++. I don't even want class credit which is why I'm looking for a book to use during my spare time this summer. I'm serious about becoming a quant and this is my biggest obstacle. Maybe Horton's book will be more useful after I've learned the basics instead of immediately working on windows programming but right now I need something basic.

but you need to actually write code. the books wont help you do that. you can try the problems on www.topcoder.com for practice.
