Ideas for undergraduate thesis

Really anything in the realm of finance, financial derivatives, securities trading, financial markets, etc. Focus on macro (not interested in corporate finance).

To do a semester of research and write a thesis paper on. I'm an undergraduate and my course background would be only

-multivar calculus

-linear algebra

-real analysis i

-basic prob/stat

-intermediate econometrics

-some finance coursework

-some macro and monetary econ coursework

Something interesting and relevant. And that might actually be useful to practitioners today.

I think you can try two things

1.) Anything that involves lot of programming, better if it uses mathematics as well.Maths/Finance is something that you can always learn if you have a good book, but programming is something that you won't learn unless you get your hands dirty with coding.As an undergrad there is a fear of programming, if you haven't faced the music.

2.) Something to do with economics,how do you determine the real state of an underlying economy that is not visible by the stock market index.I mean you must be able to find the indicators that reflect the real state of economy independent of the hosuing prices/stock markets etc.
