headhunters asking for .doc format resume

I was recently laid off and I'm back into the job hunting game.

I've noticed a few recruiters who advertise jobs on Bloomberg specifically ask for your resume in .DOC format rather than pdf. Is this something to be suspicious of, i.e. are they going to start modifying your resume and sending it out without your knowledge?

I've sent in a few .DOC resumes to headhunters posting jobs I'm well qualified for and haven't heard so much of a peep back.

They like to easily put it in their system and they like to put their company and contact info on it before writing it to pdf. They also may use the pieces to cut-and-paste into other systems, like corporate job sites that they have access to. I wouldn't be suspicious but I'd also recommend you try and control the process and the distribution. The serious people I've worked with are usually very good about this and they will not object.
