Hi everyone,

I am currently considering taking a job offer as a quant analyst from a stat arb hedge fund. I am fairly new to this field, so please bear with me with my ignorance. To sum it up, I'm considering dropping out of my PhD from a top tier computer science program to join a HF.

I want to get a feel of how it's like to work there, so my question is simply -

what's the best part/wost part about being a quant?

to phrase it in a slightly different way...

why did you get into this field?

I asked the folks at the hedge fund where I got the offer, but I was afraid they're painting a rosy picture on purpose to get me to join. So a different and honest perspective is much appreciated.

Thanks guys

There is a thread on this topic.  Think it was started by Bachelier (?).  Hopefully someone else remembers the title.

kram,

Some threads worth reading: this one, this other one, and (last but not least) this one.

PS: kram, are you Swedish btw? Do you know what "kram" means in Swedish?

[EDIT: in Swedish, "kram" = hug. Nothing very intellectual, I know. I learned this word from some Swedish honeys I used to know, and who always finished their emails/postcards with the word "kram". It's a nice word to know if you wanna impress some Swedish chicks, lol]

Best part: loadsamoney.

Worst part: Having to work with people who gravitate towards loadsamoney.

smart people tend to be weird and interesting.

weird = entertaining

interesting = fights boredom.

the true enemy in life after you defeat terror is boredom.
