I'm currently an exotics quant with one year experience in rates and 1.5 years as a quant. I'm looking for a career switch now, and would like to go on the structuring/trading side. As bonus have now been disclosed in most of the banks, and people are beginning to move a bit, I was intending to switch within the next three months, not to be too much hampered by the current lack of liquidity on the job market.
My question, which are two, are the following: who's recruiting in rate semi-exotics or exotics now? Would a switch to FX, commo, or EQD by profitable in my case? I can disclose my profile in P.M., but in overall, it's quite classic (Grande Ecole+DEA).

Hi MichelEyquem - my colleague covers rates (and FX & commodities) trading & structuring in London and I can intro you if you shoot me a PM (email in my profile). I cover the same market in Asia Pac.
We can't really disclose (publicly) which houses we know are recruiting, however there is some movement in the rates space and we can give you an overview of the other asset classes.
Overall I'm not sure you'll necessarily be better off switching asset classes or how realistic it would be to do whilst simultaneously moving into structuring / trading. If a structuring or trading desk is going to take you on in most cases it will be for your strong quantitative understanding of rates exotics products coupled with you being able to demonstrate the skills needed for trading / structuring.
Changing asset class is a bit more tricky because you don't have the practical product knowledge that others will have - and bear in mind you will also be competing for existing traders / structurers in those product areas for these jobs so that is two obstacles to overcome. That's not to say it's impossible, but will really vary on a case to case basis.
