Hi, I have been lurking for sometime but this is my first post. I will graduate in a couple months with a PhD in Applied Physics from a top Ivy school. (My undergrad is from Canada.) I have been considering both consulting and finance for a couple years, but have over the past few months decided on finance.
I have good programming experience, but it has all been in specialized languages or with math engines. Lots of Mathematica and LabView, no C++. For this reason I am not really looking for quant jobs with heavy programming, since I'm not going to impress anyone there. Is it possible to get a job in a quant trading role? If I don't want to write code for a living what role within quant phynance should I be looking for? Do firms hire new PhD's for such roles? How hard is it to get such a job right now?
Are there any hh's willing to take a look at my resume?
I would like to find something in London, Paris, NY, SF or Chicago.
