I have a BS in Applied Math and just got my MS in Finance. What I also have is pretty good programming skills (C++) and lots of passion towards algorithmic trading. My previous job was software developer (not in the finance industry).
Questions:
What percentage of the quant industry is involved with derivatives pricing systems as opposed to the part of the industry involved with "more simple" things like pattern recognition models, pairs correlation, etc. The reason I am asking is to understand if I have any good chance of landing a decent job in the industry without learning hard core math stuff related to derivatives pricing like stochastic calculus, pde modelling, martingales, etc. Is there a place in the quant world for a person with my background? What should I learn to gain an edge?
Any advice or recommendation is invaluable to me at this point, and thank you for reading my thread.
