suggestions on my tick database

I've decided to try out Oliver's suggesting and and build something with the anticipation that it might be throwaway work. I'm been storing 5 second bars on about 50 securities for a couple of days now, which is the lowest interval that Interactive Brokers seems to support. My database is currently at a little less than half million rows and the table currently takes up less than 13MB. I think I can stick with this until I need a true tick database.
