you see ... it is more a question of interest, not real expectation that something completely new will pop up. it was 2000 or so that we looked at their site, ordered their entire book recommendation list and eagerly read their "insights" - with andrew as editor in chief. but it became obvious very quickly that they had other more important things to do than edit their website ... no updates, lazy reporting. you know. that kind of thing that makes you think: uhh, trouble on the pnl.

so we first heard about them in 1999 in context of huge sharpes, than checked them out on their site and watched them vanish. which made me curious about their further development ... and after having seen renaissance watch and citadel watch i thought andrew is worth another one of that kind ...

it can easily be that decimilisation was the ultimate killer of cn ... if they "died" ...

If their website is any indication (AUM reported as of 1/31/05), I think it's safe to say they're still "alive"...

Cooper Neff has known 4 phases - so far:

- Cooper & Neff and a bunch of other partners who started this quant shop with a great emphasis on research

- Sterge era: with the tremendous profitability of program trading, he took over the company

- the battle for power: Sterge is bored, he does not know what to do with his money, he's looking for new challenges... his lieutenants fight for power: a French guy emerged as a winner - good job j.ass

- the very few left: most of the trading has been re-organized and merged with BNP Paribas.

very accurate information. the whole thing smelled like that. the way the accessed the public early this century was semi-pro at best. well reflected in their site. the current cooper neff site is a waste of time. theirs and the visitors. 800 AUM seems like a change in the picture as well. andrew must have got hits from decimilisation, the only reason why i can think he suddenly became interested in cat bonds and that kind of game.

in essence rentec seem to be the last big quants known to the public standing straight.
